Ktunaxa Greeting to Visitors
Lillian Rose from Lakeshore Resort Campground in Windermere B.C. shares a Ktunaxa Nation word that is a special greeting to those visiting her peoples’ traditional territory.
The Ktunaxa language (also called Kutenai or Kootenai) is a language isolate (meaning it is considered to have no demonstrable relation to any currently existing language) and named after and spoken by the Kootenai Native American/First Nations people who are indigenous to the area of North America that is now Montana, Idaho, and British Columbia.
Language is an integral part of storytelling. Like our Facebook page to find out when we share more Aboriginal words as we travel British Columbia exploring “Our story. Your experience.“
