Max’inux Killer Whale

Posted on August 21, 2012

Mike Child from Sidney Whale Watching shares the Kwakiutl Nation word for killer whale. Kwakiutl or Kwak’wala is a Wakashan language of the Northwest Coast, spoken by only about 250 Aboriginal people in British Columbia. The language has been in decline, but fortunately some young Kwakiutls are working to keep their ancestral language alive.

Language is an integral part of storytelling. Like our Facebook page to find out when we share more Aboriginal words as we travel British Columbia exploring “Our story. Your experience.
