The magnificent Northwest Coast longhouse overlooking Prince Rupert Harbour is home to the Museum of Northern BC. Internationally known for its exceptional collection and the quality of its exhibits, the Museum draws visitors from around the world to experience its unique celebration of cultures and histories.

The purpose of the Museum of Northern British Columbia is to collect, document, preserve, study, display and interpret to the citizens of the Northwest Coast of British Columbia and their visitors, the natural and cultural heritage of the Northwest Coast from its geological origins to its present day and future development.

Prince Rupert is located in the centre of the Museum of Northern BC’s culturally rich mandate area and at the gateway to the northern Northwest Coast. The history and the culture of this region find material expression in the museum’s very important and expanding collection of artifacts and associated research material. It is the interplay of research and this rich and diverse collection of artifacts that has been the foundation of the museum’s exhibits and interpretation.
