Spirit Bear Lodge is situated in the small, remote Kitasoo/Xai’xais fishing village Klemtu. Located 280 nautical miles north of Vancouver, Klemtu is truly in the heart of the rainforest.

Nestled in a remote archipelago of small islands and thus protected from the wild Pacific, Klemtu is centrally positioned to offer unparalleled access to some of the best grizzly and Spirit Bear viewing in the region. Because Spirit Bear Lodge is owned and operated by First Nations, our guides, many of whom were born and raised in Klemtu, have exclusive access to some of the Spirit Bear viewing areas in the recently created Spirit Bear Conservancy.

Lodge

Architecturally, the exterior of the Spirit Bear Lodge pays homage to the traditional long houses built for thousands of years by West Coast First Nations. Inside, the atmosphere is modern and relaxing. After a day of Spirit bear viewing, share stories with fellow guests in “The Great Room”, an intimate central room with comfy couches, 20-foot high, ocean view windows, local Tsimshian Art and two 12-foot, solid cedar dining tables.

Each room in the Spirit Bear Lodge is afforded with a King Size bed and private bathroom and takes full advantage of the ocean and rainforest viewscapes. During our tour season, the lodge is reserved exclusively for guests on our package tours.

Gift Shop

Spirit Bear Lodge will be expanding our retail selection this season. While still small, our retail space at the lodge will feature quality products such as Helly Hansen outerwear, T-shirts, great books on the bears and the rainforest along with traditional First Nations arts & crafts.

Cultural Performances

Guests can experience traditional dancing at our Big House by our traditional dance group led by hereditary Chief Charles Robinson.

Bear Watching

BC’s Great Bear Rainforest is Home to Spirit Bears, Grizzlies, Black Bears and Wolves. As the largest intact temperate rainforest in the world, it is home to hundreds of species of animals that make up one on the most bio-diverse areas on the planet.
