This region is home to Vancouver, British Columbia’s largest city and Whistler, a world-renowned year-round resort. In 2010, both destinations will play hosts to the world during the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Coast Salish, one of the largest First Nations in the province, inhabits the entire region. Amongst the Coast Salish are the Squamish, Lil’wat, Sto:Lo and Tseil-Waututh Nations. Throughout the region you can share their culture through interpretive centers, performance spaces, gift and art shops, guided interpretive tours on water and land, workshops, and festivals. The Lil’Wat Nation and the Squamish Nation have partnered to build a world-class Cultural Centre in the resort of Whistler, which is scheduled to open in Fall 2006.

The Centre will celebrate the joint history of the Lil’wat and Squamish tribes by showcasing their history, creative works, and cultures, enabling both nations to share their culture with the world and invite visitors to the 2010 Winter Olympics and Paralympic Games to enjoy First Nations hospitality.

Here you can experience the hospitality and culture of the Coast Salish people, including the Squamish, Lil’wat, Sto:lo, Tseil-waututh and other Canadian First Nations communities who live in this region of BC.
